The McKenzie Group and NHS Tees Valley Clinical Commissioning Group – Hartfields Medical Centre Phase 2 engagement survey

Monday 9th May to midnight on Sunday 3rd July

The Hartfields Medical Centre, located in the Hartfields Extra Care Village, temporarily closed in mid-March 2020 because the size and layout of the building did not enable McKenzie Group to ensure a COVID-safe environment for patients and staff, in line with the strict COVID infection prevention and control measures implemented nationally at that time. The temporary closure enabled the McKenzie Group to use staff more effectively and to help ensure compliance with social distancing requirements.

In February 2021, McKenzie Group asked NHS Tees Valley Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) if they could close the Hartfields Medical Centre permanently, on the basis that this would enable them to continue to deliver high quality of care to their patients and run more efficiently.  They wanted to do this by moving all staff to their four other McKenzie Group practices, which would enhance clinical quality and practice resilience.

The CCG first wanted to understand what patients and stakeholders thought of the proposal, to find out how they accessed services and how the temporary closure had affected them and to better understand the potential impact of a permanent closure.  A survey was undertaken by the practice between July and August 2021 to gather this information.

The results of the survey are available online at https://teesvalleyccg.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/sites/9/2022/04/Proposed-Closure-of-Hartfields-Site-Powerpoint-002.pdf.

Further engagement

To help inform the next steps, the CCG and McKenzie Group now want to understand what the impact might be of potential changes to services provided from Hartfields Medical Centre.  This engagement will therefore look more closely at the impact of a possible permanent closure, whilst also beginning to explore alternatives to the branch being fully closed and fully open.

No decisions have been or will be made regarding future provision of services prior to further engagement and consultation, if required.

It is therefore very important that we hear from as many people as possible, and we encourage you to complete their survey before midnight on Sunday 3 July 2022.
